Haida Gwaii – which means Place of the People – is the traditional name for an extended archipelago of 140 islands bordering the northwest coast of British Columbia, Canada.
Also known in the past as the Queen Charlotte Islands, this unique region is served by plane and ferry, yet remains remote enough to retain its natural beauty. Campers, kayakers, fishermen, beachcombers, hikers, hunters, wildlife enthusiasts, photographers and other adventurers are all drawn to these islands. In 2005, the region’s Gwaii Haanas National Park was chosen as the foremost park destination in North America by National Geographic Traveller Magazine.
For many visitors, a major attraction is the renaissance of the native Haida culture, one of the richest, most complex and artistically gifted native societies in North America.
